Today Is Tomorrow’s Yesterday

Thankful for My Many Blessings

Today was one of those days. You know the ones you wish you could just redo? Today wasn't completely horrible, so to speak, but it was a pretty bad day. Between issues with my son's CF and his toddler tantrums, to receiving an extremely high power bill. This mom has reached her limit for the day.

My poor baby didn't have the best of days today. We woke up to a rattle in his chest, which in the CF world, is not good. I tried not to panic because my son picks up on that, as every child does with their parents. I started his day like we always do. Made him a cup of his "milk-a-moo" (chocolate milk), while I made his cereal. He ate his breakfast as usual, and I washed up the dishes while he was in his high chair not able to pull everything right back out of the dishwasher. When he was done, we did what we normally do and turned on cartoons and got his breathing machine, vest and treatments ready. But today, he decided he didn't want to be on his machine.

Normally, he doesn't mind. But, not today. He had a complete and total meltdown. So, I didn't force it. I let him finish his chocolate milk while watching cartoons. Twenty tantrums later, he fell asleep for his nap. So I put the vest on him and did his breathing treatment while he was napping. Which I've never done before, but it actually worked and it didn't wake him up. Luckily, it fixed the rattle. But as soon as he woke up from his nap, he got sick.

Which is not a good thing to see from any child, let alone CF child. So here I am freaking out thinking he got the flu and this is why he has been throwing these massive tantrums. Well, good news; NO FLU! Bad news, the tantrums are a part of the terrible two stage. The tantrums just got worse as the day went on.

But thankfully, come supper time, he had calmed down. He actually ate his supper, and played in it as per usual. Bath time went smooth as well, which is a change in this house. And he is now sound asleep. But in the process of these tantrums he has hit his head pretty hard many times just today, and has had his hands on his head a lot, just today. So I'm going to have his head checked out, just in case.

His tantrums have gotten really bad lately. But I'm sure they could be much worse. He had an episode so bad today, that he actually bit me. And it wasn't a gentle bite, it was hard and left a mark. I'm thankful for the experience, but at the same time I'm ready for it to be over. It's challenging. The sleep regression, attitude, and tantrums; no matter where we are! Yes, I want more children, but I'll be waiting until this one is a little older, and grown out of this stage!

So, all in all, I guess it wasn't as horrible as I may have thought. But, my baby had a bit of a trying day, which means I did too. Thankfully, the rattle was just a scare. And I'm very thankful he didn't knock himself out today by banging his head like he has been lately. They don't tell you these things when you have children. They just throw you to the wolves. So if you're about to become a mama or a daddy, welcome to the pack babes!

We have more good days than we do bad. But I'll be glad when it's over. Tomorrow is a new day, and I'm sure it'll be full of tantrums and chaos. Just like everyday from here on out. But, I'm blessed.

XOXO
