First Trimester List

What Helps to Make It Through Trimester 1

These are items/things that helped me make it through my first trimester of pregnancy. Some may work for you, others may not.

1. A Good OB

If you are lucky enough to choose, find an OB/Gyn that works for you. If you already have a gynecologist, they may already be an OB, and that's awesome. Having a doctor you can vibe with is HUGE. He or she is going to get to know you on a pretty personal level, so find one that you get along with and brings you comfort. I was lucky to find one on my first try, but you may see a few.

2. Prenatal Vitamins

This is a must. Again, find one that you like. A few of them are huge, so if you have trouble swallowing pills, find ones that do not give you trouble. Your OB will also have samples to give you when you first find out, and it is definitely worth a try. Although, I found one she had as a sample that I liked, but I hated once I ordered them. In the bottle, the coating started to rub off, and the vitamins had a fishy tasted and smell I could not stand. Again, might take a few tries to find what works for you, but it is important to take daily.

3. Clear Soda

MANY people will tell you to not drink soda while pregnant. It does leave you bloated. BUT, my morning sickness was so bad that I needed something to settle my stomach. Personally, I do not like ginger ale. But 7up, Sprite, and Sierra Mist have always helped me feel better whenever I had an upset stomach.

4. Water Bottle or Tumbler

Speaking of drinking liquid, find a way to help you drink more water. I was told you should be drinking at least 80 ounces a day while pregnant. Plastic water bottles are find, but it can be hard to keep track of how much you drink. Plus it does not stay cold. I personally found a stainless steel tumbler from Target. It was $10 and keeps my water incredibly cold all day. Drinking water from it is second nature now.

5. Snacks

My doctor told me snacking can help with morning sickness. Finding healthy snacks was another key for me. I personally liked, almonds, nuts, and crackers. Occasionally I would eat chips if I just needed the sodium. The carbs and sodium helped me keep morning sickness at bay.

6. Mouthwash

Again, morning sickness SUCKS. Having mouthwash readily available is a necessity. Personally, I could not brush my teeth immediately after because it would start another round of morning sickness.

7. A Bella Band

Honestly, your pants get a little snug quicker than you think. The band will help you wear prolong your pants. Maternity jeans can be pricey. Plus, I ended up using them for a bit of extra support once I was farther along.

8. Pantiliners

One of the less glamorous parts of pregnancy, discharge. Yes, it does happen in the first trimester. Get pantiliners, whatever brand you prefer. I personally like the Kotex thins.

9. An App

I know, people have been pregnant without apps. But I thoroughly believe an app helps keep pregnancy exciting. I personally use the Ovia app and I can track my health, weight, medicine, and doctor appointments. It gives new facts daily and you can compare the baby's size to fruit, animals, or toys.

10. A Beauty Regiment

A Beauty Regiment: Your body goes through changes almost immediately. I needed to find a beauty regiment for my changing body. Personally, my skin became dryer, so I needed to find moisturizers to help battle dry skin. I also needed to make sure I used body oil/lotion immediately around my midsection. Again, it is to keep your body hydrated. It won't keep stretch marks away, but it will help your changing with any itchiness or dryness.

I hope this list helps you during your first trimester. Pregnancy is beautiful, but it is also a rough journey!
