The Death of Words
As someone who's been recovering from a surgery for far longer than anticipated, I've spent an obnoxious amount of time on Twitter to pass the time and boy howdy is it ever a mess right now. I spend a lot of time browsing the queer rights topic which has been under fire in the United States and United Kingdom, mostly in regards to the recent legislations involving transgender people and their involvement in sports.

Gender is a Performance
It's not too much of a stretch to make the claim that people under the transgender umbrella give their gender far more thought than the average cis person. Transgender people spend years and thousands of dollars on adjusting their presentation to match their gender, but gender is something that everybody has so what's up with the backlash towards transgender people lately then? A lot of the reasons cisgender people give for not supporting transgender rights is that they don't understand how it works, they can't fathom someone putting themselves through years of medical work just to feel comfortable in their body and I honestly get it. It can be pretty overwhelming when someone you love comes out as transgender because it may feel sudden or like you suddenly have to change everything you know about that person but I want to try and give another way to look at the concept of "gender" as a whole.

A Rant About My Family
You know what, sure, my depression is being worsened by you telling me to drop out of the one school in the one town I’ve finally found a home and a family in. It’s you telling me that I don’t have a future for myself because my boyfriend’s life is expensive, because of your ungodly transphobia and unwillingness to learn anything. It’s you telling me you think me going home to where I’ve proven I’m happy is going to cause me to kill myself and you want to keep an eye on me, because I’m obviously /so much happier/ in this fucking town. It’s you telling me that I’m gorgeous, and there’s no reason for me to dress like a boy or try and pretend to be one, because Heaven forbid your child turn out to be trans. Heaven forbid your only daughter might not be your daughter after all, but aren’t I still your child? It’s you telling me that I’ve been straight for the past 5 years instead of queer like I’ve been identifying because I’ve been in three long term relationships with men.

Why I Don't Care About My Labels, and You Shouldn't Care About Mine Either
Over the past five years, I have identified as every label from the acronym LGBTQ. When I was 13, I was convinced I was bisexual. During that year, I conflicted between identifying as a lesbian and bisexual, eventually settling on bisexual after a few months of internal debate.
