A True Grandmother's Love
Growing up, we didn’t have a close relationship with our grandparents. On my mother’s side, my grandmother passed away when I was 15. She wasn’t the best grandmother per say to be happy to see us when we visited every summer. We lived in the U.S., and she lived in Mexico. Every summer, we spent it with her, but she would always sit outside and ignore us. My grandfather passed away when my mother was two years old. My grandmother remarried, but like her, he ignored us and wouldn’t come home when we were there. Who knows where he stayed those three months.

Shenzu and the Temple
In my hair salon, we usually received packages daily. The staff on occasion would have their personal packages delivered here to avoid porch thieves. This day was a little different. The package was midsized, wrapped in brown paper and not addressed to anyone. It did not have a label on it. Nor does anyone remember it being brought into the business.

Oh My Olga's Goodies
Years ago, I was at a friend’s house visiting her grandmother during winter break from college. At that time, after dinner, she served us a homemade chocolate cake. Not for anything, but this was the best chocolate cake I had ever tasted. Her grandmother refused to give us the recipe. It was not for lack of trying; we begged her often throughout the week we were there.

East Texas Barn of Wonders
All my life I lived in Texas. My parents were attorneys and both of them wanted me to follow in their footsteps. This was not what I wanted, but I completed law school and worked with my parent’s in their law firm. I did not want to disappointment them, and this was the only path to take at the time.

What now?
A few months ago, my husband and I, after twenty years of marriage, purchased our first home. We saved for years trying to find the perfect home to fit our family and pets. We decorated every room exactly how we dreamed. We thought our lives were going to be amazing after renting for years. We had our very own safe space to relax and enjoy. It was blissful for the three months we lived there. That was until the world decided to end. That fateful night was the last blissful day we had in our new home.

What you might find in the trash....
Day in and day out, my job was the same thing. Once in a great while, it would be interesting, but not as interesting as this day. I worked for a disposal company as a driver picking up the containers for businesses. Mostly new construction businesses.

Koda and the Little Black Book
It was a quiet morning while I was enjoying my breakfast outside of the cafe. I was alone with my laptop researching jobs and updating my resume. I had been recently let go from my position at a law firm because the attorney closed his office after retiring.
