Why the Belchers Are the Family We Should All Aspire to Be!

Why the Emmy winning family is the family we can learn from and aspire to be!

I assume you know the FOX animated show Bob's Burgers, and if you don't, you are missing out! This Emmy winning cartoon centers on the life of Bob Belcher and his family, who work in his burger restaurant, appropriately named Bob's Burgers, as they all try in their quirky mundane way to get their spatula off the ground and make a name for themselves.

Now, you're probably wondering, "Why should we want to be like them? They just seem like a pathetic attempt of an all American family, who we all tune in to laugh at every Sunday."

And to that I say, you're only barely scratching the surface! Once you delve into the burger flipping family that are the Belchers, you see the heart that we all strive to achieve.

Even though the Belchers struggle to make ends meet (or meat), they all remain hopeful and positive. Instead of becoming depressed about the lack of customers or the struggle they have with finances, they stay close knit to each other as they all try in their own quirky and unique way to bring in more customers. Which, most of the time, doesn't work out in the way they had expected, but they grow and learn from their mistakes and become closer and closer after each endeavor.

Take the episode "Lindapendent Woman." In the episode, they're struggling with paying bills, and so Linda comes up with the idea to take a job at the local grocery store. Bob ends up having problems with this, not because of the fact that Linda is becoming more independent and he feels threatened, but simply just because of the fact that he misses her, misses being with her.

In the end Linda loses control of the store and Bob confesses his feelings over the intercom, which leads to Linda telling him she feels the same way, and she quits (before she could be fired) as they embrace and attempt to share a kiss before it's foiled by flying shrimp tied to balloons.

That episode also has one of my favorite lines, brought to us from our favorite Louise Belcher. As they're discussing new methods of earning extra income since Linda would no longer be working at the market, Louise says, "All I know is that sex sells, so all we gotta do is find some sex and sell it!" I love that line because it's so adult, but yet holds so much child like innocence within it.

At the end of the day the family bands together to learn from their mistakes, and even though they usually end up attempting something just as insane the next day, they never let it hinder their happiness, hope, and the close knit family that is the Belchers.

Which is why we too, at the end of the day, should strive to be as persistent and loving as the Belchers. Why whether we're struggling with finances, or jobs, or personal relationships, we can all take a leaf out of the Belcher's book and instead of focusing on the helplessness of the situation, focus instead of the hope that is in whatever hardship we're facing, and focus on the positive and the love that we have in our lives.
