A Letter to My Baby Boy

My Dear Son,

My sweet baby boy. Soon you will be a big brother, but I want you to know that you will always have a special place in my heart. You are my first born. You’re my rainbow baby and my miracle baby. You are the one who officially made me “Mommy.” I hope that our bond will never break, you are my only boy. You have such a sweet soul, whoever you decide to marry will be extremely lucky.

At three years old, you know that mommy has a baby in her tummy and you know the baby is a girl. You know your baby sister’s name, you helped pick her name. Aside from me, you’re the first person to ever feel her kick. That was a special moment.

Do you want to know why I feel that whoever you marry will be extremely lucky? I see all of the amazing qualities in you, despite you being a “threenager,” which if you have your own kids one day you will understand. You have been so kind and caring to me, when I don’t feel good you bring me medicine. You’ve covered me with blankets, cuddled with me, and told me it will all be okay. Though, you don’t understand why or what is causing mommy to hurt, you still show nothing but compassion and kindness. You’ve rubbed my back while I’ve been balled up on the bathroom floor from being in pain. You have such a gentle soul, I hope you never lose that.

Your soul is too kind for this world, it almost scares me. You’re so incredibly sweet and I know people will take advantage of it. I don’t want people to take advantage of you, but it will happen at some point in your life. Please don’t let that close you off from being the kind and compassionate person that you are.

I hope that you always find adventure, you’re so curious about everything. You have such an amazing imagination too, I hope it never ceases. You can do brilliant things with that mind of yours.

I hope that one day you fall in love. I hope that person will cherish you, more than I do. There will be a day when someone comes into your life and they will mean more to you than I do. That’s perfectly okay, I want you to grow and be on your own and make your own decisions for your own family. I want to be included in your life without forcing myself into it. I hope that one day your future spouse will love you the way I love you, unconditionally.

One day you will be grown up and not need my help like you do now. I won’t be the one preparing food for you. I won’t be the one comforting you when you are sad or scared. I hope that one day you cherish the person who will want to be that person in your life to do all of that. I hope that one day you appreciate everything I’ve taught you and apply it to your life.

You will go through things in life. These things won’t always be easy to deal with, but they will make you stronger in the end. You will learn from your mistakes, pick up pieces and grow to be a better man. Whatever path you take in life, I will support you. I will support you as long as you aren’t harming yourself and others. I will be by your side as long as you want me there.

I will always be your mother. Your mom. You will always be the tiny little human I gave birth to in my eyes. I will love you for the rest of time, no one can take that from you or me.

Love, One Very Lucky Mom
