Considering the fact that at least half of all pregnant women will suffer from some form of heartburn during their pregnancy it is helpful to learn a few tips and remedies that can help you avoid these symptoms. This will give your stomach time to process your food and lessen the chances of acid returning to the esophagus creating that burning feeling in your chest.

However, if you still suffer at night you can either lie on your left side, or raise the elevation of your head. If this offers little help there are foods that help lessen your symptoms. Yogurt and milk are known to decrease the side effects of heartburn. You can try drinking a glass of warm milk with one tablespoon of honey during an episode to stop the burning sensation in your chest.

If you have tried the tips up to this point and have found no relief it is time to really hydrate your body. Water is the most important substance for you and your growing baby. This is why it is pertinent to consume water throughout the day. Although, if you choose to gulp instead of sip your water you may find yourself creating more of a problem for yourself and once again suffer the effects of heartburn. If you find you are growing tired of plain water simply add one or two wedges of lemon to boost your waters flavor and acid fighting capabilities.

To ensure you always have a quick fix on the go make sure you always have a few sugar free peppermints close at hand. These were a life saver for me during both of my pregnancies. Ginger Ale was also very soothing, and without caffeine it was a choice I could feel good about. Another great option you can feel good about choosing when fighting heartburn is pickles; this will help aid in digestion and normalize your stomach acid.

With so many natural options available to soothe heartburn you are certain to find a remedy to help lessen that burning feeling we all hate to feel. When you are pregnant it is very important to ensure your choices will not harm the health or growth of your unborn child. If you still suffer the effects of heartburn after trying a few of these tips and remedies it is time to talk to your doctor. If you suffer from a serious case of heartburn your doctor can always provide you with a prescription if necessary.
