Summer Time In Maine!

10 Years Later

This is my son when he was 3 years old. This is very first time my son and I have seen the ocean. My husband has seen it many times on account that he has traveled the world. Anyway, back to our summer in Maine. My kids thought it would be cute to be buried in the sand. My husband and son dug a hole and buried my daughter up to her neck. My son wanted to do the same thing so my husband and daughter dug and hole and started to bury my son but he wasn't having it anymore, and I have the picture of his face saying yuck. I was laughing so hard, I wasn't sure if I was able to take the picture.

After the burying of the kids and then digging them out we packed up, I realized that my daughter's flips flop's strap broke, and she couldn't go in without shoes. So my husband went in and grabbed a pair of red flip flops, and paid for them. She loved them. We went around to the rest of the little shops. Then we walked near the water and we saw a family of ducks. My son thought they were cute.

It was around dinner time and we went to this restaurant where you could pick your own lobsters. My son thought they were scary because there were so many of them. Anyway, we all went into the restaurant and sat down and a few minutes later a bowl of steamers came to the table. My husband started to dig in and my kids both went yuck. I kind of agree with them. I don't like steamers still to this day. My kids got burgers and fries, my husband and I each got lobsters.

After dinner, we went back to our motel and the kids wanted to go swimming so my husband and I had the kids change and we changed too and went swimming for about 30 minutes because I was getting tired it has been a long day.

Well, fast forward to 10 years later and my husband, son, and I have come back to Maine. Not realizing that we stayed in the same motel and ate at the same restaurant. So I guess having something familiar was great for me.

My son was too young to really remember all the little shops the first time around. So I thought it would be a great idea for him and I to go and look around. So that meant my husband could spend sometime with his parents and walk the Marginal Way.

While waiting for them, my son and I sat down on this little bench and well there was a man walking his dog. We asked him what his dog was and he said that she was a cocker spaniel. She was beautiful.

Well, after our nice little looking trip it was time for dinner. We went to the same restaurant we did 10 years earlier. My husband had streamers again. He never passes up the opportunity to have steamers. I also never pass up the chance to have lobster. My son had the steak.

After dinner, we went back to our motel and well my son and husband went to the pool and I stayed back in the room. I needed time by myself. When my husband and son were done with the pool, my son saw a game that was outside and he wanted to play so after he changed he asked me if I would go and play. I couldn't turn it down.

What he didn't realize is that I use to play this game when I was a kid. I knew it as "bean bag toss." My son also use to play this game in grade school but he knew this game by a different name. I can't remember what he said it was. We played about 5 rounds and I kicked his butt. I won 3 out of the 5. I was loving kicking his butt.

The next morning, we checked out of the motel and went to breakfast. Again, I didn't realize that we went to the same place.

This trip was great because we as a family were able to get away from all of the noise of our daily lives. It did wonders for my attitude, my son's attitude, and most importantly, my husband's attitude. This trip to Maine was great for my son and I because we got a chance to see different things together. All in all, we as a family had a great time. My in-laws had a great time too. I love my in laws. They are very special to me.

I hope that in 10 years we get the chance to do this again. I just realized while I was writing this, my son could be a dad with this next trip to Maine. For me that just means that I get to show my grand kids the places where I took their dad. Boy that looks like a great picture. I can't wait to share that love.
