While I have whizzed through creating my Christmas menu and sourcing food ahead of the festivities, I have to admit that I have had more trouble than usual choosing gifts this year. Maybe it is because a lot of my girlfriends are either expecting or have kids of their own and I seem to have been so busy attending various different Christenings or baby showers!

That got me thinking though. When most of your friends are either expecting or have little ones of their own, those tried and trusted pressies that you used to buy them, just don’t seem to be appropriate anymore. Boozy weekends together at the spa just don’t seem to happen, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go some way to making the lives of your besties’ that little bit easier. So, here are my top five pressies for the mums and mums to be.

Pregnancy Pillow

If your friend is currently pregnant then the chances are that you will have heard her complain more than a few times about how difficult it is to get a decent night’s sleep, and this is only going to get worse as her bump continues to grow. This is where a maternity, or pregnancy pillow is an absolute lifesaver as they have been specially designing to suit and supporting the changing contours and curves of a woman’s body throughout pregnancy. It also supports loads of different sleeping positions and encourages a woman to sleep on her left-hand side, which has shown to have the most positive benefits for baby.

If your friend is in the latter stages of pregnancy, then this is a super handy purchase, as I am sure she has already told you, sleeping in a normal position becomes such a challenge. One thing to keep in mind though is that the pillow supports the whole body, so it takes up a lot of space in the bed, so you should be prepared not to be in her partner’s good books!

Private Chef Experience

This one is a little bit different, but it is a really useful gift that can be used either before the birth of the little one, or afterward. It is possible to purchase a private chef experience so that your friend and her partner can relax in their own home and a highly-qualified professional chef will swing by and cook them dinner based upon their tastes. This is perfect as it allows your friend to completely relax and spend some time with her partner, it also takes the pressure off having to cook and allows mum and dad (current or to be) to spend some quality time together.

If they are more dedicated foodies, then it is possible to buy them a luxury food tasting experience where the couple can spend an evening trying new and exciting food, either in the comfort of their own home or at a dedicated restaurant.

Relaxing Spa Break

Okay, I know I said no boozy weekends, but a healthy spa break is tried and tested and certain to go down well with your bestie. It will be the ultimate gift for helping her relax post-birth and gives you some quality time together, even if it is just for one night. This offers some quality time to relax and catch-up together while taking her mind off all of her recent demands. It also gives you the two of you a time of time to catch up with each other, as let’s face it, it’s going to be a bit harder to do that as much as you used to in the new year!

Maternity Maxi Dresses

Even though it isn’t quite the weather for it just yet, thinking ahead and getting her some clothes for the warmer months will be very much appreciated and are super-practical. If your friend is still in the early stages of pregnancy, then these will be fab presents for her to keep for later on in the year, and they will be really appreciated. As our bodies change during pregnancy, it can be super-frustrating to not to be able to wear your same clothes and to feel as though you are just not looking your best—this is where maternity maxi dresses are perfect. You can choose something that you know she will absolutely love and that she will look forward to as the weather gets warmer, and still look and feel her absolute best!
