My Pregnancy

Birth Plan Not As Planned

In the early summer of 2018, I conceived my first baby. I did not know this. In fact, it took me almost six months to actually know I was pregnant. In the Summer of 2018, I moved to Colorado.

On the way to Colorado, I stopped by Kansas to visit my sister. My sister, Allison, was expecting her second child that month. I stayed there until a few days after she had the baby. I did not know it then, but that is when I started having symptoms. I figured it was just my period. Usually, before I start bleeding I have super bad cramps. I get headaches and my boobs hurt. I bled a little for two days. I pushed it aside, and I stated it was my period.

After Allison had the baby, I moved to Colorado. I started becoming ill. Anything I ate was thrown back up. I cramped all day and night. My nose bled constantly! I, again, pushed it aside. Whenever I was little any time I visited a state up north all these things would happen.

After a few months of staying in Colorado, I realized I could not do it anymore. I was too sick. I had my Aunt drive me back to my home state. After I got there everything was better, or so I thought. After a few weeks of staying there, I started getting sick again. My mom took me to the doctor. The doctor stated that it was something to do with my colon. He told me in the past many times I cannot get pregnant.

Before I could make it to my appointment for a colonoscopy I went to the emergency room. I was cramping and throwing up. I thought for sure I was going to die! That’s how bad it was! They took my blood and urine samples. They came back and said I was pregnant! I could not believe it! They could not tell me how far along I was because they did not have an ultrasound technician.

We made an appointment to see a doctor, but he could not see us for another month. Once we were finally seen; we were able to get an ultrasound. I was so far along that at my first ultrasound they could tell me the gender! I was 25 weeks. We kept it a secret so we could have a party!

That Saturday we had a small get together. We popped a balloon that had confetti. The confetti was the color of what gender I was having. I was hoping pink would rain down, but it was blue! I was happy though. I already had a name picked out!

A few months later—when I was seven months—I ended up going into preterm labor. It was a scary moment for me. I was bleeding more than I ever was before! I was having contractions. They were not big or close at all. I was just panicking over all the blood. I called my mom who was at her boyfriend’s house and told her to come get me. She drove down to the house and picked me up. On our way to the hospital, we got stuck in the middle of a parade! We spent an hour and a half trying to get to the hospital! Thirty minutes of it was spent in the parade! I didn’t even get any candy!

We arrived at the hospital, finally! They gave me a room as fast as they could. I was poked and poked. They listened for a heartbeat. It took them forever to find it. Each minute they spent trying to look for it was another minute of me panicking. After they found it they checked my contractions. They told me I was going into preterm labor. They had to stop it with shots. They shot me twice in the thighs. They said it would not hurt, but it hurt like hell! At that moment I knew I had to get my shit together! I started writing my birth plan, and I started planning my baby shower.

My birth plan was simple. I wanted my mom in the room. I wanted a natural labor with no epidural. I wanted music and limited visitors after the baby was born. His name would be Alexander Xzavier. He would not be circumcised. He will not be breastfeeding. Everything on my list changed. Everything except for one.

I had my baby shower in January. I ended up giving birth a week or two after. Which was still before my due date. Nothing on my birth plan was right. I had to have a c-section because he was breached. I had to have an epidural because I had a c-section. His name turned into Alex instead of Alexander. I was so upset I felt like crying.

I was strapped on to the table like Jesus, and a curtain was hung over me. Luckily, my mom was in the room. Even though I had an epidural I still felt all the pulls and tugs. My surgery started at six. My baby was born thirty minutes later. Once I heard his first cry; I started crying. Even though my plan did not match up I was still happy. It was the happiest moment of my life.
