Parenting just got a whole lot easier.

As a first time parent, I'll admit I'm far from perfect. I thought it would be an easy transition into fatherhood, mostly because my wife makes raising a newborn look fairly rudimentary. I guess that's just what motherly instinct is, because I have had no such luck in making the transition.

Obviously, no one likes to change a baby. I get that. So that was a huge obstacle at first. One thing I didn't anticipate though—despite the plethora of courses my wife and I took beforehand—was actually feeding the baby. My wife was pretty adamant about not breastfeeding our daughter for too long, so we looked into some other feeding options.

During my search, there was one particular feeding technology that piqued my interest from the onset—the BlueSmart mia2 smart baby feeding monitor. It basically had everything I needed to properly feed my daughter when my wife wasn't available. Unfortunately, her maternity leave is over, and I work from home, so the onus is on me to make sure our daughter gets the best care possible. And I'll tell you this from the onset—the BlueSmart mia2 helps me do just that.

What I first loved about the BlueSmart mia2 were the vast number of customization features. You can sync it up to the Baby Tracker app via Bluetooth, and it will create a tailor-made feeding plan for your child. Normally, I wouldn't trust smart technology with things that pertain directly to the livelihood of my child, but after reading reviews on both Amazon and the company website, I realized it would be totally fine. I can now attest to that.

While there are a ton of functions, let's start with the main one—tracking your baby's feeding.

First, simply place your feeding bottle into the mia2. Make sure it's on a flat surface, so you get a proper reading. After a few seconds, the "portion measured" indicator will light up green.

After your formula or milk is measured, a Tricolor Indicator will then indicate whether the fluid is at the optimal temperature for your baby.

Once the light is on, you can now feed your baby! Unless there are any issues (temperature too hot, feeding angle too steep, etc.), the light will turn off so it won't distract your child from the task at hand. Once you're done feeding, place your bottle and mia2 on a flat surface once again so it can process the data. Then, simply open up your app, and you can view all of the details on there.

So what data am I talking about, exactly? Well the mia2 records a bunch of different feeding factors like feeding angle, temperature, and even milk/formula expiration. It also has a feeding timer to alert people like me when it's time to feed. This is especially helpful when I'm immersed in my work. Not saying I'd ever let my child go starving, but sometimes I'll be a few minutes late, so this is definitely a great help in that regard.

All of this, again, is housed in the mia2's free app. The app will also give you some super helpful feeding suggestions and tips, just in case you're a novice like me. Additionally, you can use the app to set and meet daily, weekly, and monthly feeding goals, keep a concise journal of your newborn's feeding habits, and even share baby data with family, friends, or your pediatrician.

And, if there are multiple caregivers that also take care of your child—you can loop them into the app. It also works with Alexa, so if your hands are full, you can just access the app with your wonderful voice. Linking the app to Amazon is simple—just search BlueSmart Baby Tracker and Logbook under "Skills" on either the Alexa app or on Amazon's website, and enable the skill. Then, just enter your login info, and tell Alexa to record whatever you want it to learn— bottles, feeding schedule, diaper changing, etc.

The perfect solution for new parents.

Overall, I think the mia2 facilitated a lot of things I struggled with daily when it came to feeding, changing, and caring for my beautiful daughter. My wife, obviously, had some reservations about leaving me in charge when she was at work, so it wasn't a surprise that she was totally on board with the idea of getting one of these right from the onset.

The only real con that I had after I purchased the product, really, was that it took a little time to get used to all of its features. In all honestly though, I'm really not a tech-savvy guy, so I'd attribute that more to my own shortcomings; but once I got used to it (after a few days of use), it became pretty easy to navigate, and an absolute lifesaver to have around. The app's interface, in particular, has a great layout, which makes it simple to access all of my daughter's data whenever I need to.

If you're lacking a bit of confidence when it comes to being a new parent—don't worry, we've all been there. Getting the BlueSmart mia2 helped make my life as a stay-at-home dad easier than ever, so if I were you, I'd at least give it a try.
