Domestic Violence Shelter for Those Escaping Families

Why I Want to Start One

Domestic violence is a reality in the world today, but not everybody has the strength to get away from an abusive family, especially if you have a disability. I want to help disabled people on SSI start businesses, in order to get off of SSI. This can be hard sometimes because some of us need to maintain our benefits still. Why I want an MBA is for this purpose, to help disabled people start their own businesses. SSI is helpful to those of us with illnesses or disabilities. I ask the current administration to not touch the system since many need it. You said you wouldn’t, so for once, live up to your promises.

Some families do not want to pay for their children’s medical care or living expenses, which is why they push their kids into the SSI system, especially if they are too unstable to work. My shelter requires epic funding though. I have a rather quirky idea for fundraising, and that involves using my martial arts to have people place bets on whether or not I can push somebody bigger than me with my chi, which I have done in a San Francisco Qigong class years ago when I was in college.

People in group homes fare worse than people living at home, although living at home can come up with its own share of drama. I want to set up a shelter with computers available so that disabled people can work from home. I would also have a food bank. I want to make sure that people have a chance to get a job and get back on their feet if their family controls their ability to work. This is a venture that is designed to help people break away from their families completely.

You see, I’ve noticed that there are no resources for people escaping abusive families. None. Next to none anyway, and this is because you have to network with friends to escape. Families work the same way as a partner, they try to isolate their kids, and using their disability to make sure they can’t get anywhere, up or down. They make sure to trap them, in particular, if there are marital problems in addition to their adult child’s disability.

Yes, disabled people put up with stress, to deal with emotional abuse, psychological abuse, or abused generally, in any way just piles it on. My fundraising idea sounds wacky, granted. But it would raise enough money to start this project.

There may yet be such things as non-profit franchises. I’m reading what I can get my hands on about starting non-profit organizations. I also need to work on my t-shirt business, give or take. Etsy.com is a fertile place to sell my artwork too, given I have money for postage to send it to who wants to buy my pieces. My blog can also serve that function as well. Many people want to build better lives in the world of today, and I want to help them.

We would have a library with a variety of resources on job search, as well as work from home jobs and freelancing available to people who need to make money. Disabled people often get the short end of the stick when it comes to money, that’s what is known as the sub-minimum wage that disabled people get stuck with.

Actually, no minimum wage is good enough in the United States, after I saw a map on Facebook as to what the standard wage ought to be. The standard wage needs to be higher than it actually is. Disabled people are at a disadvantage in the now, because they get mistreated. It is time to end this practice.
