Parenting Wars
Do or do not - there is no try. The ins and outs of one of the most difficult jobs on earth: parenting.
step parent to be
There are many things you need to consider when it comes to choosing whether you are right to date someone with a child. Being a parent is a full time job and whether that child is yours or not, when you step into that picture you are the step parent to the child even if you are not married, you picture a future with this person but it is not just them you have to picture.

I honestly must say the subject I am touching on right now is just my opinion. It is based on my life experience and on direct observation of other functioning and nonfunctioning families. I do not condone violence toward children and neither do I find it healthy to have a child who grows up out of control. As a mother of a 15-year-old and a care giver raising 2 toddlers I have to say My view has evolved as I have matured. It is not my intent to cause discourse or say what is right or wrong, my intent is only to make you think about why people spank, and whether it’s appropriate.
Casey Ann PattersonPublished 3 years ago in FamiliesLet the kids create
Kids being home for this long is never on any parents list- we all want to stay occupied! Have them learn and have things to do for ourselves- until this happens! And we realize how crazy it is to come out of our comfort zone and do something new...like stay home without our own will. It’s boring...it’s tiring....it’s frustrating...

I sat in front of my friend ready to admit the worst thing I could possibly say. "I am beginning to not enjoy my child."
Motherhood as Meditation
This morning I got up to make a cup of tea before the children woke. I had scarcely filled the kettle before tiny sounds called me back to the bedroom and a sleepy baby held her arms up. I tried to set her down with toys so I could carry on with the morning but she fussed and wailed until I scooped her up again. Motherhood as a different pace than the life I knew previously. We have created different rhythms and embraced a slower pace of life. So I settled my daughter on my hip and finished filling the kettle, including her in my morning tea rhythm. A rhythm is a practice of ebb and flow that evolves to suit each season of your life. I have come to use rhythms at home to create a container for our daily movements. These rhythms arise as I pay attention to our daily life and our needs, using these rhythms to make space for our wants and needs, creating a flow for each day.

Many of us know all to well what it is like to be bullied at one point or another in our lives. If you have not ever had this experience, take a deep breath and thank your stars. I, like many, have felt the emotional pain that comes with being bullied and as a parent, I believe it what gives me the passion to teach my children exactly why this is and never will be tolerated. There is however, one question I had then and have carried with me throughout my life. What creates a child bully?

In childhood, through trauma, we learn to develop an ego. We create a separation between the body and the mind, because we need to convince ourselves whatever is happening to the body is not happening to the mind. We create a space, knowingly or unknowingly, in our minds where we can go and escape. It has been brought to my attention the sad truth that most, if not all of us, have suffered from some form of abuse as a child. For instance, if you were given a spanking, for any reason, you were abused.
Life with less of our tech friends
***Life with less of our tech friends*** Virtual learning blues are everywhere these days....We are all trying our best to really GET it. When the lockdown first started those zoom calls with teachers were always fun.... Kids looked forward to those calls and would get excited to see some familiar and friendly faces. However, now zoom classes are much longer. Kids have to complete their work and show their teacher everything they are learning. More homework and so many ways of participation.

Complete and utter denial--that’s what I was in when the pediatrician told me in January 2019 that my then 15-month-old girl twin, Joules, was farsighted in her right eye and needed to be seen by an ophthalmologist. The pediatrician had just done a standardized vision screening (normally performed at that age) that revealed the initial results. I remember telling myself that the doctor’s assessment was probably just off and that the eye doctor would tell us that everything was okay. I mean, Joules had always acted like she could see perfectly. So, there had to be a mistake, right?
Michelle JoynerPublished 4 years ago in FamiliesHow to Get Your Toddler to Wear a Face Mask
After our not even 3-year-old twin toddlers wore their face masks for roughly 5 hours straight while we flew cross-country recently, I knew our pandemic travel experience was successful. But we didn’t just slap the masks on their faces that same day without first figuring out how to make them follow the airport/airlines’ face mask-wearing rules. We were STRATEGIC! And our strategy led to two little kids complying with the rules from start to finish.
Michelle JoynerPublished 4 years ago in FamiliesTell your children 'No'
Learn to tell your kid no. No, they cannot have that cookie. No we can’t go inside. Teach them how to deal with rejection, with failure. Teach them to LOSE. Why? So they learn how to build character, gumption and class. Yes class. It takes class to have someone yell in your face and you tactfully tell them to go to hell, so they actually look forward to the trip. They need to learn that the world does NOT revolve around them and their bubble. Their art isn’t the most magnificent thing you’ve ever seen, and their face isn’t made for tv, its made for radio. Sound too harsh? Please let me explain...

Generally speaking, the world would be a better place if people were kinder to each other. If all parents raised their children to help, the new generation would be the most compassionate yet. Bringing up a kind child means that you have to take the opportunity to shape your child as they grow. This desire has many parents searching for easy tips for teaching children kindness.
