Cloth Diapering

My Journey So Far

My daughter was born October 6th, 2017 at 3:07 pm in Wyoming. She was absolutely gorgeous. She had my red hair and her father's nose.

Before she arrived, my husband and I decided that we wanted to use parent's choice disposable diapers because they were cheap. Once we realized that those leaked horribly, we switched to LUVS. We didn't like those either because they smelled funny and they didn't have a wetness indicator. So we switched again to Pampers.

That was the first time that I felt like a horrible mother. Within an hour of our daughter wearing her first Pampers diaper, she had the WORST rash I have ever seen. It was blistering and bleeding so we took her to her doctor and found out that she was allergic to the chemicals or gelling agents in the diapers.

So we made what we thought was our final diaper switch to Huggies. It was amazing. They were soft, absorbent, and didn't have a weird powdery smell. They worked amazingly until our baby was roughly 6 months old. She had her "first" diaper rash. I quote first because I don't count the Pampers due to the fact that it was caused by an allergy.

After this rash it was constant. Once one rash would go away, another would come back. We made many trips to the doctor and ER. We had tried 4 prescription creams, 3 over the counter creams, powders, many different kinds of baths, and other home remedies. Nothing helped. Some things would shorten the duration of the rash, but nothing helped the severity or prevention of them.

We struggled with this for the next 4 months until I met another mom who used cloth. I asked her if they helped with rashes and how it all worked. We met up and talked about it all for four hours.

My daughter was 10 months old when we switched to cloth diapering. My friend sold me a few of her unwanted diapers and I ordered some online as well. Once I had a stash of 14 we started the journey. Our daughter had a pretty nasty rash going on when she wore her first cloth diaper. By the third cloth diaper, it was almost gone. I was amazed and even more excited to start!

I joined the Facebook groups that I was shown and start buying diapers there as well. By the end of two weeks, we have a pretty nice stash going. With a total of 30 diapers, I was able to put off washing for roughly four days. By this point, I am addicted and continue buying all of the adorable prints.

Fast forward to now, I have roughly 55 diapers and I just did my first de-stash. Although I sold some diapers, I used that money to buy even more. I believe I have around 10 more coming in the mail. Yes, I am addicted, no I will not stop!

Cloth diapering has been amazing. My daughter no longer gets rashes, and once I stop buying, they will save us money for the rest of the time she's in diapers.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope this sparked your interest in using cloth! If you enjoyed, please feel free to tip so as to support me on my writing adventures and cloth diapering addiction!
