From Fantasy to Reality
My stomach's wrapped in knots. Another night of waking up hours before my alarm. The clock’s early morning numbers stare back at me. I can’t turn my mind off even in my sleep. Sighing, I turn away from the irritating bright digits and look up at the ceiling. Moonlight seeps through the curtains, illuminating the pale walls. My mind uncontrollably wanders back to my sleepless thoughts.

Something More
Morning light shone through the pale-yellow curtains, warming my soft sweater as I curled up on the sofa with morning coffee. The clouds had parted giving the sun its time to melt some of the newly fallen snow. My thoughts wandered back to the previous night and my lips lifted in a smile.

You know, the one thing that I have struggled with all my life is the feeling of being unloved. Now at the young age of 27 I have gotten over it, but it sucked the life out of me. Mature Love
Have you ever loved someone so much that even after decades of not seeing them, you care about them just as much as you did when you were with them? I unfortunately know that kind of pain. To come across a love that deep is such a beautiful thing, but it’s a painful memory that you can’t scrape away. When we were together, the universe was determined to keep us apart. I now know why. I would have never traveled 2,500 miles and met my husband. My two beautiful girls wouldn’t exist, and my husband would still be living the toxic life he was in.

In My Dreams
I close my book and set it on my nightstand. I’d spent the last 15 minutes rereading the same paragraph over and over. My mind was distracted from the events of the day. The argument with the stranger on the bus. Dropping my groceries all over the sidewalk after tripping over my two left feet. Then finally making it home to my sad eyed cat that I had completely forgotten to feed this morning.

I stepped out my back door, closing it gently behind me, wrapping my coat tighter around me. The moon was making the fresh snow sparkle. It was so quiet. Nothing stirred in the night. My breath escaped my lips in repeated bouts of warm smoke. I smiled and sighed with such contentment my heart fluttered. I loved winter. Everything about it seemed to bring me to life.

It has been three weeks since that ass hat left. I will no longer stand by and watch you be depressed. I won’t do it. As your best friend I am responsible for your wellbeing after a break up.” I grunted and rolled myself off the couch.
