How I Am Improving Myself
Up until February of this year, I resided out west with my mother, step-father and four younger siblings. I was 19, had quit my job as a babysitter, and was mooching off my mother for four months as my impending moving day inched ever closer. I was getting paid $10 a day for 12-24 hour shifts with three children, frequently living at their house (for free). I often was not paid on time, my bosses (the children’s parents) were abusive towards each other, and I got the dreadful end of the consistently. I have been physically, mentally and sexually abused (only since moving across the country) and was drained from a decade of consistent abuse from one source or another.

#MeToo Isn't Enough
#MeToo Isn’t Enough. On October 5, 2017, the New York Times published a story about decades of allegations against a powerful Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein. Some of the accusations included women stating that they were forced to massage him and watch him while he was nude. If that wasn’t bad enough, he also offered to advance Hollywood careers in exchange for sexual behaviors. The victims include Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd. On the same day that this story broke, Weinstein issued the following paraphrased apology:

Taylor Swift, from 16-Year-Old Breakout Star to Now
Taylor Swift, love her or hate her, she just broke a world record. Her new music video, “Look What You Made Me Do” is now the record holder for most views in 24 hours. The previous record was 27.7 million views set by Adele’s song “Hello.” Now one article on EnGadget speculates that it may be because if fans play the music video more than once, they get a better chance of getting tickets for Taylor’s new tour. For those who don’t know, as of August 29, 2017 Miss Swift is not outright selling tickets, instead you can earn points by purchasing certain merchandise and get a better chance of being able to buy a ticket.

Their First Screen-Free Day
I have been a nanny to three children for the past two years, I have watched these children grow, mature, and become addicted to technology, specifically, anything with a screen. Movies? They feel entitled to a constant stream of movies, no matter the time, nor their behavior. Phones? They see you with a phone in your hand and suddenly they want—no NEED—2,000 hugs and kisses as they peer at your screen and attempt to read over your shoulder (despite being 5, 3 and 2). The oldest demands Snapchat filters and pictures of herself as soon as she realizes that I am taking a photograph. As soon as their movie turns off, they are literally screaming at me to put another one on. It’s maddening!

An Open Letter to My Abuser
How are you doing? I am doing alright, it’s been a while since you thought of me, hasn’t it? I think of you more than I should. What you did to me taints my every action; it forces me to second-guess every single person in my life. Does that guy really like my shirt, or are his eyes looking to my breasts? Is she grooming me, or is she genuinely my friend? Who is using me and who isn’t? Every day a question like this passes my mind, and to be honest I blame you. You took my innocence away when I was 13. You stole the last drops of my childhood and forced me to grow up. I remember exactly what you did, no detail has moved from that day.
