Hello, my name is Erin, I am a first time mom of a beautiful 16-week-old boy. Let me tell you, motherhood is awesome! I mean there are some hard times but they are greatly outweighed by all the amazing moments I have with my family.

I am a first time writer on Vocal but I think I am going to make this a weekly (maybe more, maybe less depending on what's happening in my life) thing. I'm hoping to share my ups, downs, and things I learn along the way, and maybe help a momma or two who are going through the same experiences. I am also planning on sharing product reviews, recipes and patterns that I try out. I have this adorable pattern for leggings made from men's socks I am dying to try out!

So, I'll just dive right in!

Boy looking back, these 16 weeks have just flown by. I had been told that the days are long but the years fly by and I'm starting to see how this can be true. I can't believe that my baby is already almost four months old. A lot has happened in these 16 weeks and it is so much fun to watch him grow and learn. I remember I bought him a toy from IKEA, he lies under it and there are wooden pieces hanging from it. One day he is just amazed looking at it and the next he realizes, hey, I can reach out and grab those things! He has also discovered his feet. I wish I knew what he was thinking while staring so intently at his feet.

Today was a big day for him, it was his first time in his Jolly Jumper. He didn't quite know what to make of it at first but he started to get the hang of it after a while and had a blast! I think what I am most excited about with the Jolly Jumper is having some time to do some house work. My guy needs to be able to see me even when he's playing and so I either have to lug his bouncy chair from room to room, or, and this is what I usually end up doing, I leave it in the living room and binge watch my latest favorite show. This of course means that nothing gets done around the house. The Jolly Jumper is the type that hangs from a door frame and I don't have any door frames that I can see from my TV/computer area and so it will kick my butt into gear! Its also super portable, if I want to clean the kitchen, I hang it from the kitchen door frame, if I want to clean the bathroom, I can hang it from the bathroom door frame, if I want to clean the bedroom... well you get it. Anyone else out there sometimes need extra motivation to keep your house clean? Don't worry, you're not alone!

You know what else he did today? He said his first word! He is still really young to be talking and so I'm pretty sure it was just a fluke but still I heard it, and got it on video to boot. You know what the best part of it is? He said Mama! It just melts my heart and I watch the video on repeat. My husband is super jealous, for two reasons.

  1. He said mama not papa first and...
  2. He keeps missing all the firsts. He missed his first smile, first time he laughed, first time he rolled over and now his first word.

I do feel bad for him but I am home with the baby all day and so it stands to reason that I will be seeing more of his firsts than my husband does. I do keep reminding him that there are a lot more firsts to come and I really hope that he does get to see some of them.

As great as today was, with babies it isn't always fun and cuteness. He has been on, what I call, a napping strike for the last few weeks. The only time he ever really naps is on me after he's eaten. Don't get me wrong, I love the snuggles and will be sad when they're gone, but I know he isn't getting the sleep he needs when he is on be as inevitably I need to move for one reason or another. Luckily we were blessed with a fairly easy going baby and his temperament isn't too affected by this but towards the end of the day he does start to unravel.

This in combination with teething and the fact that my husband works late, so I'm alone with no help, takes its toll on me sometimes. Especially now that it gets dark early I find the evenings tough. I won't talk to much about it now, I might keep it for another day, but I think it's important to mention that it is ok to feel overwhelmed sometimes, and to make sure that you talk to your spouse or friends, parents, doctor about it to make sure that you stay okay!

Well I'm sure I could go on for hours but I think that is enough for tonight.

Thanks for reading!
