Imperfect

What I Do

So, the football game was on last night. It was one my father just had to watch with the TVs on full blast (that’s right, two of them). His hearing’s bad and he refuses to wear a hearing aid, even one of those subtle ones that are flesh-colored. I closed the door to the office I was working in and managed to sneak my dinner in there too. One of the rules of the apartment is not to eat in the office, but I made an exception for myself since he was blasting the volume on the two TVs and I didn’t want the headache I’d surely get if I went out there to eat or if I left the door open.

It was actually a good dinner: this Asian chicken salad (dressing was a combo of peanut and balsamic) and a chicken Caesar wrap. He ordered in since he wanted to stay in to watch the game.

I helped him nuke his food and set out his bowls to eat his food in. I also put my salad in a salad bowl. I even nuked his soup. Made things easier for him, and reminded him how to use the microwave.

I was so wired and stressed from the blasted volume on the TVs and didn’t even realize I was at the time. Didn’t help that his presence, which the volume on the TVs reminded me of, was stressful too. I ended up staying up and gaming to de-stress for hours after that. I shouldn’t have in terms of my sleep schedule. I didn’t set out the mattress I usually sleep on, another rule of the apartment. I was too tired and sleepy by the time I was going to sleep. Didn’t even bother to change into my PJs. I just put my sweater over my top as a sort of blanket and went to sleep.

I ended up waking back up in the wee hours, not sure what time it was, and feeling so cold that I got the blanket I use and put it on. My boobs were too cold without a bra on, so I put the sweater back on my top to cover them.

At one point, I simply had an empty glass and two empty Starbucks coffee cups on the mouse pad as a coaster and he bitched about their being there. Stressful.

Today, I’ve been pretty much keeping to the rules, which still seem too stringent to me. I’ve had my coffee in the office (not allowed). However, I did do my dishes once I was done with the sandwich I wolfed down since, yet again, he had the TV blasting and the volume itself was stressful (rule: wash dishes as soon as done eating). I have my feet up on the secretary’s desk of the office as I’m typing this (not allowed). I’m not damaging anything with my feet and my coffee cups, though empty, are still on the mouse pad.

The rest of the rules are:

  • Must be in bed at 12 a.m.
  • Must be awake at 8 a.m.
  • Must use mattress to sleep on
  • Must put dishes away once dry (as soon as they are)

I get the first two. They make sense to me. Having a consistently good sleep schedule is a good thing. The mattress is one I wouldn’t make my own worst enemy sleep on, so I rather resent having to sleep on it. The fourth one seems unrealistic since I can’t be just standing there, monitoring the dishes to see when they’re dry. I’m usually on my laptop, blogging or getting something else done so I don’t spend every waking hour gaming. That’s my own rule for myself.

The latest thing that’s he’s doing is blasting the TV in here too after I told him I have a headache. No reason to lie about that.

I’m imperfect. I don’t always do what’s expected of me.
