Be Thankful for What You've Got

Not everyone is as blessed.

Sometimes, in this crazy, fast-moving world, we can forget to be grateful. Sure, life is stressful, and it can be easy to wish things were different, but we should always try to take the time to be grateful for what we have, and not sit pondering on what we don't have.

I don't have much money. I don't have a nice big house with a garden. I don't have kids who are well-behaved 24/7, or who use their manners all the time. My home isn't always tidy.

My 2-year-old daughter loves a tantrum, especially when she knows I'm already super stressed. My 6-month-old screams blue murder every night because she doesn't want to sleep. There's often food all over my already stained carpet because dinner time just didn't go well. My walls are decorated in crayon and there are a fair few hand prints scattered over mirrors and walls.

Oftentimes, these things get to me. It gets to the end of the day, the children are in bed, (though not always asleep and behaving, I might add), and I just feel no motivation to clean the mess of the day. Sometimes I just have a bath, watch some mind-numbing TV, and then head off to bed, knowing that when I wake up and see the mess again I'll be even more stressed; but at the time, I don't actually care.

Some nights, however, when the day is done and everything is cleared away, I sit and think about everything. My children, my family, my life. And I'm grateful.

I'm grateful for my partner, who does his very best to give us everything we need and want. I'm grateful that my girls have a dad who loves and cares for them the way he does. I'm grateful that both my children are happy and healthy, and although they can misbehave and scream and stress me out no end, they are actually really well-behaved the majority of the time. I'm grateful that my 2 year old has such sweet manners, saying please, thank you, and sorry when she needs to. I'm grateful for a roof over our heads, even if I do wish I could have a house with a garden for my children to play in. I'm grateful that there is food in the fridge. I'm grateful that I have my family around me for support and guidance. I'm grateful that I myself am healthy. I'm grateful that I still have my mum; some people aren't that lucky. I'm grateful that I'm around to watch my children grow; some people also aren't that lucky. I'm grateful for my children; there are people in this world who would do anything for a family of their own, but unfortunately can't have that.

Although I get stressed, I am still so grateful for all I have, and I wouldn't change any of it for the world.

Sometimes, we forget to be thankful for what we have. Sometimes we just need to sit back and enjoy life as it is, hug your kids and tell them you love them as much as you can. Enjoy the home you live in, even if you don't like it much. Enjoy the food you have in the cupboards. Enjoy spending time with your family, and enjoy watching your children grow and learn, even through the stressful parts.

Enjoy your life, and everything you have. Nothing is guaranteed, and tomorrow it could all be gone.
